Background:
Glycosylation is a signal in many biological processes such as cellular recognition and growth, the intracellular transport of proteins, immunological responses and antigenic mechanisms. Glycoproteins can often be modified in pathological tissues associated for example with cancer, inflammation, autoimmune diseases, infection and various congenital disorders such as liposomal storage diseases.
